Milwaukee Pug Fest 2009

Hey, y'all:

Sorry I've been MIA this past week. Mom was sick as a dog I tell ya what. Some kinda bug got a hold o' her and knocked her on her you-know-what! Anyhoo, now that I've got my typist back I'll bring ya up to speed.

Mom and some o' her KPR friends headed up to Oak Creek Wisconsin to the 2009 Milwaukee Pugfest last weekend. I guess it was a real barn burner.....food, vendors, music, even a belly dancer! (Which mom failed to get a picture of....I woulda liked to see that!) Here's a few o' the highlights:

Yep.....KPR's own Annie W. got to wear the Pugfest mascot costume!

A blessing o' the Pugs (and other assorted breeds)

Speakin' o' other breeds, this gal and her Chinese Crested bear a strikin' resemblance to one another, don't ya think?

While perusin' the silent auction table, look what mom found......a great Pug pic donated by Emmitt's mom, Melissa, honey!

She also met some o' the nice people with Homeward Bound Pug Rescue. Now I'm pretty sure one o' y'all's mom volunteers for HBPR. Pearl, honey.....is it your mom?

This country quartet really livened up the place I tell ya what. You should o' seen mom tappin' her toes to Foggy Mountain Breakdown (by request)!

Here's Lois walkin' Pip in the parade of rescued Pugs. Now I gotta tell ya, Pip was born with dysplastic joints in his front legs. Poor little guy could hardly get around since he couldn't put weight on his front legs. Anyhoo, KPR fixed him with surgery at 7 weeks old, and look at him now!

Mom says there was a real good turnout.....she reckons close to 1,000 folks came through, and everyone was real nice. All I know fer sure is lots o'money was raised for Pugs and she brought me home a brand new bed, so I'd say the trip was worth it.

Yep. Mmmmhmmm.

The Things We Do for Pugs

Hey, there. Thought I'd get up a little early today - before noon, anyway - and tell ya a bit about mom's transport adventure yesterday. Seems there were seven pugs down in Evanston, Indiana (nearly to Kentucky!) who needed a ride up to Terre Haute. Mom couldn't get any takers for the whole route so she decided to do it herself.

You shoulda seen the ol' girl this week.....runnin' around like her head was on fire and her ass was catchin'. Between makin' phone calls and tryin' to figure out who she could snag crates from, she was makin' dad and me nuts I tell ya what. I offered up mine, but she said it wouldn't fit in her car. (That's what she gets for drivin' a damn Subaru, hippy, tree-hugger car.)

Anyhoo, Molly's worked and her pal Annie lent her some crates so she was all set. Mom says it was a nice drive and she found the place with no problem. Now before ya'll start screamin' "where are the seven pugs???", mom's camera battery died. But she did get a few pics before it croaked.

This here is the St. Meinrad Monastery. St. Meinrad is a little bitty town, I tell ya what. Now I don't know what a monastery is, but mom says it's a place where ya have to act respectful and keep your trap shut. No way I'd last there, I tell ya what.

When she got to the pug lady's house she was greated by George. His mom kept him 'cause "he's a good watch dog".

Pretty nice piece 'o land. Now I'm not one for swimmin' but wouldn't mind hangin' out by this front-yard pond.

This ol' gal, Geneva, gave KPR a jingle 'cause she's been sick with cancer and can't care for all those dogs. She's what mom calls a "backyard breeder". But at least her dogs had good shelter, and it doesn't look like they've missed any meals! Yep, mom says they'll make good pals once they learn "household manners"....whatever that is.

Yep. Mmmhmm.

Well, howdy neighbor.

Welcome to my blog. If you've listened to my mom talk for any more than five minutes in the past two years, you've learned a little about me. But let me bring ya up to speed a bit, uh, to make up for all those times when your eyes glazed over.

I was adopted from the Kentuckiana Pug Rescue on March 3, 2007. My original name was Mac, but my mom has this thing for Hank Hill of Fox's King of the Hill. On her part, it was love at first sight, I tell ya what. Me, I'm pretty easy so I was just happy to sit on her lap in the car. Dang, it was cold that day!

Anyway, she and my dad Scott have been real good to me. Becca, a good ol' Beagle/Springer Spaniel, was nice enough to take to me and show me around the yard. Not that I gave her much choice. I tell ya what, that ol' girl couldn't even take a dump without me bein' right there! Now that she's almost blind, I feel kinda bad for all the times I opened my yap and ruined her squirrel huntin'. But I'm makin' up for it these days by helpin' her walk the fence row.

Then there's Molly. She's our foster pug. That ol' bird is somethin' else.....always stealin' mom's lap, and she snores like a buzz saw! But she's okay. I guess.

Well, time to hit the sack. Next time I'll tell ya more about this "thing" my mom has for Hank Hill. Uh...huh, huh....yeah (red-faced, rubbing back of neck, shuffling paws).....the girl ain't right!

Yep. Mmhmm.
