Molly Update

Hi, bloggers and blogettes:

Sarah here with the latest on Miss O'Mally. Test results show struvite crystals and microalbuminuria in her urine.

Albumin is an important protein that is found in blood, but not normally in the urine of healthy dogs. Microalbuminuria is the presence of small amounts of albumin in urine. Finding small amounts of albumin in the urine MAY indicate underlying health problems, and MAY be an early warning signal of renal (kidney) damage or disease.

There are several conditions that can cause microalbuminuria (diabetes, high blood pressure, inflammatory diseases), but since her blood work is otherwise normal, we're not sure why she has it. The struvite crystals are a result of all the bladder infections she's had.

Anyhoo, she is now on a blood pressure pill, an anti-inflammatory and her usual pee pee pill. Her new diet consists of a boiled eggwhite and Hill's prescription s/d kibble. I am happy to say she loves it!

While she does not have "confirmed" kidney disease, I wouldn't be surprised if it progresses to this. (She is a geriatric canine, you know!) However, her medications and diet should make her condition manageable for some time. Most importantly, she is happy and is active!

Hey, she went from this (her first day with us last March).....

To THIS!

Yep, we're just taking life one day at a time here at Brandt Drive Home for the Visually Impaired.

PS Go say hi to our friend, TicTac! She and her brothers are cuties, and their parents are great!

Molly looks like a very happy girl!

We have a foster brother named El Guapo. He has some medical issues (the latest his vision), but he keeps pluggin' along just like Molly.

Big hugs and kisses,

Molly;

Wishing you the best outcome with the struvites, can be little buggers to get rid of at time. Bandit's were sterile and gave him a heap of trouble. Sending out well puggy thoughts and vibes to you.
